About the project

New Sustainable Rural Tourism Learning Opportunities for Women in Border Areas – New Low

The project “New Sustainable Rural Tourism Learning Opportunities for Women in Border Areas – New Low” is implemented within Erasmus+ Programme.

Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life.

The Project is implemented by the consortium of three partners: Institute for cross border areas from Serbia, Local Action Group Međimurski doli i bregi from Croatia and Development Centre Novo Mesto, from Slovenia

General objective of the project is to improve capacity of women living in border areas through creating high quality and easily accessible learning opportunities for sustainable rural tourism.

Specific objectives are:

  • To create high quality training methodology and digital platform for women living in border areas for sustainable rural tourism and
  • To educate pilot group of women from border areas of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia for sustainable rural tourism
The main challenges that women living and working in rural economy today in the border areas of eastern Europe face are more difficulties/issues due the fact that border areas are usually less accessible, less populated, with lower human potentials.

Additionally, they have a lack of information on job availability, lack of possibilities to diversify rural economy and to improve its overall position, as well as opportunities for training and education, limited access to knowledge resources and limited access to financial and non-financial services. Providing the training for them and creating easily accessible knowledge base for rural tourism will directly improve the quality of learning opportunities for them.

In addition, Project will contribute to the two more themes:

  • Creating and promoting learning opportunities among all citizens and generations – since Project will provide new approach in education and support to women in border areas to improve their skills and knowledge for rural tourism to help them diversify their mainly agricultural households and improve their overall position.
  • Stimulating innovative learning and teaching practices – since Project will provide modern way of support to women to switch from traditional agriculture-based households to more advanced – tourism-oriented approach which will create better possibilities to improve their incomes and quality of life in general.

The main project results are:

  • Training methodology for training of women from border areas in rural tourism prepared and available online for organizations that support rural economy
